Ideas for your 21st
If you're born in 1988, like me, then you'll probably be turning 21 this year.

Are you thinking of holding
THE PARTY OF THE YEAR?????

sorry, i think that slot has already been taken by aesthetist Georgia Lee and her Roman Themed Party at Red Dot Museum.

Grand Entrance flanked by studs

a throne and 2 fawning males
in ridiculous body paint - but 2 fawning males never the less

more fawning males and testosterone

your guests will never look as hot as her guests
(because you dont administer botox shots for a living, maybe)
source

For some people, recession is but a mere, word, not a situation. i dont even think it was her birthday, i think the party was for fun or something.

Happy CNY
I am on a detox now (ok well sort of) because i feel gross from eating so much meat and fatty stuff over the CNY period. I dont feel 'fat', rather i feel unhealthy - heaty and possibly indigestion because i dont normally consume such things. For the time being, i am staying away from roast duck, roast pig, fried anything, titbits and other unhealthy things. blehh..

that aside, this CNY was great! :D

Let me just share with you some very random pictures on the first and last day of my visiting

"heavily pregnant"

sis and I
other one is in confinement so she's not allowed out

ah this fish is SUPER YUMMMMYYYY
It's called Rabbit Fish or Pak Tou (white belly) Fish in dialect
and it is a teochew tradition to eat it!
NOM NOM NOM

You either get a female fish or a male fish
with the female fish you get eggs, and the male fish you get sperm
and i think it's good luck if you eat it, the worst is the get a barren fish

between you and me I LOVE THE SPERM,
it's so milky and soft.
i know this sounds gross, but it's really good.

mum holding a photo that is FORTY YEARS OLD. even older than me.
that's my ah kong, ah mah, and my uncles and aunties!
(except 1 more auntie, not born yet)

if you look closer, all the girls are wearing the same clothes
my ah mah used to sew matching outfits for them

hahaha

cousins

grandma and her daughters

MUFFIN.
he is so ugly he is kinda cute.
he doesnt have a snout so he really looks like a sausage..or a bolster
and he grunts!!

lor hei!

for non chinese, this this is called Yu Sheng. It is made up of shreaded carrot, radish
and other spices. It is a tradition to toss the ingredients as high as possible
as this symbolizes a prosperous new year.

There's a much longer explanation behind this dish...
most of them stem from Chinese idioms

series of garden shots

me no comprehendo why i look so dorky

this strikes me as a line up of air-stewardesses

gamblliinnggg
i lost $4 from playing in $0.50 denominations >.<

my uncles and aunties playing mahjong in the background

Now this puzzles me,
why is it a CNY tradition to gamble?

THAT ENDS DAY 1

I went to watch the Wedding Game on Day 2, which was...mediocre? You should only watch it, IF

- you like Fann Wong
- you like Christopher Lee
- you want to see how many brand names you can put to the apparel Fann Wong dons
- you want to count how many obvious ad placements there are

Weak and predictable, overused plot - reminded me of Wei Xiao Pasta (Taiwan), some said it was like Full House (Korean). Fann Wong was bloody annoying in the show - she was either crying or whining/wailing/screaming.

this show would totally flop in any country (besides singapore and msia)

Guang Zhou Pt 2, Hold your Stomachs
Ok so, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, this was the only ENGRISH i managed to find!~!

I dont even think it's that bad.

You will find many of these eateries serving noodles behind a glass. Unlike local hawker centers, you have to pay at a designated cashier, collect a receipt and then pass it to this girl. troublesome.

Xiao Long Bao - i would eat Singapore's ones any time, over this.

There a quite a number of these people selling their local items such as raisins and that bread thingy. I cant remember where they are from exactly..somewhere from the north, maybe from Tibet!?!?!

Damn, wish i could remember.

Shangxia Jiu Lu Pedestrian Street. GZ is a very modernized city. Everywhere you go, there are huge shopping centers. Mainly filled with 100 shops selling the same thing.

Their durians are only SGD2 a piece and they are monolithic compared to the size of the durians found here.

Your random roadside butcher...

WAIT A MINUTE...

random???

Let's zoom in.

Ladies and Gentleman, you've heard of it, but have you ever seen it??

That's right, it's DOG MEAT. the cheapest one on the table too.

This butcher was somewhere around our hotel and we saw it on the first day of our trip there. Surfing around on the Internet, many sites were recommending QingPing Market for a taste of some 'REAL' Guang Zhou Culture. i'm not sure if we ever made it to Qing Ping, or if we went to the wrong area, but we saw some interesting things anyway...

if you look a little closer at the picture, you will see that 3 animals have their head facing up, while 1 has its head facing down.

You will also notice that 3 of them have a slightly brownish tinge to their body while the other 1 is a milky pink

the milky pink ones are actually goats, or maybe they are lambs. Ultimately they become mutton - which i do not eat.

Which means, the other 3 bodies are....DEAD DOGS.

So if you remember, i left off my last post asking you to guess what this was. I must say the 'feet' were a DEAD GIVEAWAY.

i stumbled across this eatery. These pieces of meat were hanging at the window like how char siew and chicken are hung at the hawker center but their heads were chopped off. There was a sign which said, "this is our specialty". they never really said what it was and i thought it was pork at first because...culture shock maybe.

and it took me a long time to finally believe, that it was once again, DOG MEAT.

THEY ARE PAWS. LOOK AT THE PAWS.

this on the other hand is what a pig's trotter looks like

Since we're on the topic of eating dogs, i did a quick google image search... and trust me, I left out the more graphic ones.

THE BUTT OF ALL JOKES. I AM EMBARRASSED and also rather infuriated.

A Slice of Guang Zhou Pt1
Ok, high time i blogged about my 广州 trip...which was...i think not as great as other holidays ive been to. Mainly because my mum got hospitalized after we came back and because there was nothing much to do but shop there. I know that there's nothing muck to do in BKK except to shop as well, but China fashion and BKK fashion is like WORLD's APART.

The quientessential shirt from China has something like "I Love Sweet Girl" emblazoned across it in gaudy colours. Everything is made in China but oh man, China needs to start stealing more ideas because their everyday fashion is in the pits. Now talking about stealing ideas, you cant find a DECENT looking bag if it's not a Chanel or LV knock-off, which is so frustrating!

Ok, that aside, i did see many interesting things.

What's this? Roast Pig...? Shall leave the answer to the end.

One of my favourite things whenever i travel are roadside vendors. Why does Singapore ban them! :( This Sweet Potato smiled for my photo :D

The last time i went to Beijing, which was like 8 years ago, there were sooo many of these 冰糖葫芦 (Bing tang hu lu) vendors but during my whole trip in guang zhou i only saw 2!!! :( SUPER SAD. i can seriously eat this thing everyday. Each stick costs 2yuan (SGD$0.40)

eating this during winter is awesome

This is at the local Carrefour! Omg, was quite happy to see this but it is severely China'fied. I remember there was a boycott over the Beijing Olympics Torch Ceremony and someone commented that the locals were hurting themselves because Carrefour stocked mainly local products and it was true! I didnt see any familiar products there. All local products!

In the photo above, people are clamouring round a table selling chicken feet. The people here love their dim sum, im assuming it's because guangzhou is near HongKong, and btw, they all speak CANTONESE HERE. -_-

queueing up for eggs

rice bins, self service. weird huh, why do they sell it in large packs here but allow people to buy any amount of rice they want in China?

Catfish seems quite popular here...

but you can also get it along the roadside! AWESOME! I love street vendors. (the women is in the midst of gutting the fish. this is called FRESH)

Something else you can get along the roadside, CONDOMS!!!! Condom vending machine! i saw this along a road once (huh!?) and along an alley leading to a public toilet O M G.

You can also get Viagra along w it. ok, this is from a medicine shop, inconspicuous i say!

Very randomly, this is a page from a magazine but her turn out is AWESOME. i have this MAJOR, MAJOR FETISH for that slightly up-turned ankle (see the pic on the right). Notice how her toe is pointing upwards. OMG DAMN SEXY, DAMN GORGEOUS. you try doing it!

and the left picture, her sole is almost facing the front!

i would seriously want to come back to china to watch one of their performances because i know it's gonna killa! If there's anything china does right, it's training their talents to death!! hahah...

The storybook I would love to be trapped in...
There are 2 camps; those that believe in fairy tale endings, and those that believe these endings dont exist. I think if given a choice, everyone wants to live in a fairy tale, to find their Prince Charming and get whisked away in to never-never-land....

or not.

I think im in camp number 2. fairy tale endings dont necessarily exist, things arent always "happily ever after", the good people dont always triumph, and i'm definitely not going to find out i have royal heritage one day and HEY IM A PRINCESS OMG!!!

Sidetrack..i would really love to be trapped in The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. The 1 thing i remember to this day are the toffee shocks and pop biscuits. ALWAYS wanted to try them, always started salivating when it was mentioned in the book. damn i was a fat and greedy kid. >.>

But here is something a little closer to home...something which really happened. i really got trapped in a storybook!

How is that possible right? Well let me begin...A few of the cast members from the Jewel Box Christmas Light Show did another show for Swatch, which planned the event with a very enchanted theme... Every story needs a title...so let's just call it

The Swatch Story.

(MY CREATIVITY ASTOUNDS ME SOMETIMES)

Before the story really begins...Swatch's 2009 collection revolves around 5 themes. You can only see 3 in the picture below. The 4 of us, protagonists were Sprites, each representing a season. (BTW, Sprites are something like fairies ok, not Sprite and 7-Up that Sprite OK) A very quaint tent was set up at Fort Canning where the press where to be held. They created a very unique 'fish tank' like setting to create the atmosphere of a fairy tale.

Before anything begins, the make over happens first.

Makeup artist armed with 3 suitcases full of her trusty palettes

These are just lipstick colours! Check out the blues!

and the magic begins....
using eyeshadow colours to represent the seasons

stage makeup is quite horrifying up close.

can you guess what season im supposed to be...?

quite obvious right..you only have 4 to pick from!!

After makeup, there's still the hair to settle...

lots of lots of curls!!

Half way done... *awkward smile*

The story teller (see the story book he is holding in his right hand?)
and Winter

very randomly, here is another shot of Winter

and done!
Transformed into Sprites!

So the story went something like this...Er, (this is the story teller talking)

In the Age of Sophistication, things were bountiful and the Sprites ate their fill, frolicked in the sun and were happy but wasteful. Their lavish ways ruined their kingdom and soon the earth begin to die.

It was now the Age of Rust... Having depleted their resources they had to think of a solution, to save themselves and save their kingdom. With little choice, they had to Sail Away to find another place they could call home, to find a remedy which could bring them salvation...

The journey was wroght with treacherous storms and torpedo winds. It was not long before the ship could sail no more and crashed into the rocks. Perhapes it was a blessing in disguise. When the Sprites awoke, they saw that their ship had marooned in a land where flowers grew and the birds chirped.

They got off the ship to explore and they found seeds which they could take back to their motherland. They harvested these seeds and brought them back. Soon, an Organic Explosion took place! The Sprites were overjoyed. Their plan had worked and Neon Streams started to flow....

All was back in place, and they lived happily ever after!

eh, it was something like that anyway la.

We were dancing to the story which was created around the Swatch's 2009 themes. Very cute concept! As you can see, our stage was the grass plain. The press and guests were housed in the tent/fish tank, creating a voyeuristic atmosphere, an impossible glimpse into a world beyond yours.

these are my favourite photos of the day.

They also hired some stilt walkers to the event. Looks so dreamy and fairy tale like!

OK, the next best part about the event were the refreshments. Dont you just LOVE h'ordeurves! MAN all these tiny food portions served on chi-chi china make any event seem so glamourous, even if it wasnt meant to be. No pictures of these but they were good. MMMMMMM.

Being a dancer is fun. You always have to transport yourself into another world whether you're a ballerina playing Giselle, a hip-hop dancer from Harlem, a Tap Dancer from Broadway. You have to feel it, to let your audience to believe it.

It's just like getting trapped in a story book isnt it?

Except this event, we were literally trapped in a story book. awesome fun.

and if you think you will never get the chance...then maybe this movie is for you...

I am behind time...
After being sick over the weekend, i think i am finally stronger -_-. My mum's op was a success and she's coming home toommooorrrooowww. how many days is that...almost 20. that's a long time to be stuck in a hospital.

i have ZERO modules at the moment and school starts next week, or the week after next for me it seems HAHAH :D Ohh sucks to be broke on CORS, guess it sucks to be broke in real life too! Oh money makes the world go round..the world go around...

so what have i been up to during the holidays...aside from flying to Guang Zhou, ive been dancing at Jewel Box. I only call it 'work' when im in a bad mood or when i decide to sound a little less lazy and more driven. life is always better when you surround yourself with things you love.

Last show of the season for me. Had to take a picture with their Christmas Tree.

Their super chic bathroom overlooking harbour front and 'esplanade'

It snows at Snow Land..er, suds.

This picture is so weirdly cute. The columns smoke because of the dry ice they put on top

figure out cool things to do with our wands

while making our rounds around jewel box during NYE...

fairy tale ending?

pre-show mucking around

our spectators normally love us!

so many pictures from these shows...

NYE

rushed down from mt faber in the cable car and hailed a cab. weiliang and i were damn happy we didnt spend it in a cab, or in the life, or along the coridor

reached jilyn's place with less than 5 minutes to spare!

was meticulously trying to save money and cab fare that day so i left jurong before the last train at 130am! smart move! BUT THEN i should have gone to zouk to meet jea and the rest after that. i would have had more fun lol.

everybody is starting school soon. :(

grr ok very annoyed with CORS. i only have...zero modules.

So today is day number 13 - 13 days in the hospital since my mum was admitted. she has pneumonia and a lung infection. She's been on anti-biotic drip since day 1 and recently they inserted a tube in her back to suck out the mucus that's lining her lungs and another area but that's not really working...so, She's going for an operation on Monday after a blood transfusion... do keep her in your prayers...

and thanks to those who came down to visit her :)
