夜上海

My second time to the vibrant city of Shanghai! I prefer Shanghai in the night when the city looks more awake and there are less people around. Im not good with crowds.

This time around all I did was eat and shop, shop and eat. Good thing we had Jesse to show us around and bring us to the famous restaurants.

Famous goose at Lao Beijing. Every time the chef sliced through the skin, all the juices and fat would flow out.

They cook the goose 3 ways, so for every goose you order you get the skin, the meat, a pot of soup and some goose fried with vegetables. The whole night I thought I was eating duck. Even now I'm actually still not so sure.

We also made a trip to Lost Heaven which serves Yunan and Burmese cuisine. We ordered this egg and crab dish, which looks a lot like Singapore's Chilli Crab sauce, except it was an omelet stuffed with HUGE chunks of juicy crab meat.

The last place Jesse brought us to was Hai Di Lau which is China's most famous steam boat place.

The drawing quality of the restaurant is supposed to be their different house made meat balls and their impeccable service. And when i say impeccable, i mean impeccable. To quote Jesse on this - anyone who thinks that there is no service or etiquette in China has to come to Hai Di Lau and you'll be blown away by their service standards.

They provide you with aprons, even spectacle cleaners, hot towels, refill your drink immediately, pour in the steamboat ingredients for you and say 'please enjoy your meal' at least like 15 times in one sitting. Their toilet area also provides customers with shaving kits, toothbrushes, moisturiser and hair spray.

The service was so meticulous we all got a bit creeped out.

A must order is their hand pulled noodles (7 yuan a serving) where the designated noodle guy (for lack of better words) pulls the noodle at your table.... in a dance routine. *jaw drops*

The night we went for steamboat was also the night we decided to check out Phebe 3D Nightclub. Im not sure what is so 3D about it but a lot of the international students frequent this joint because of their 100yuan (SGD20) all night, free flow, alcohol booth.

Didnt really like their music..especially not after the amazing experience at Ellui in Seoul. Clubs in Shanghai have live performances through the night that can range from raunchy routines to comedy acts. Managed to catch a sub-par Britney Spears routine from two dancers, one of which kept trying to keep her hot shorts pulled up throughout the entire dance.
